The Challenge
Participants will develop payload concepts across key domains shaping Very Low Earth Orbit missions:
VLEO Payload Instrumentation
AI & Edge Computing in Orbit
Next-Generation Earth Observation
Satellite-to-Device Connectivity
Payload Resilience in VLEO
The challenge is structured as a 67-day journey from concept to final pitch:
11 May 2026 — Kick-off at University of Stuttgart
May – June — Masterclasses, mentoring, and company visits
30 Jun 2026 — Deliverable submission
06 Jul 2026 — Final Pitch & Demo
This program is designed to bridge technical exploration with real-world application:
- Work on frontier satellite technologies and emerging VLEO use cases.
- Engage with experts from the ESA innovation ecosystem.
- Develop a payload concept with potential for real mission scenarios.
- Present your work at Innovationstage Empfingen.
- Selected teams may be considered for fast-track incubation.
